Water softener installation is the fitting of a whole-house ion-exchange unit on the main water line, so the calcium and magnesium in Florida's aquifer water are removed before they reach your water heater, fixtures and glassware. We size the unit to your household and your actual hardness, install it with a bypass and proper drain, and set the regeneration so it uses the salt it needs and no more. We also service softeners we did not install: resin, valves, settings, salt bridges and bypasses.

Scale is the visible sign of hard water. It builds on aerators and glass first, and inside your water heater at the same time, where you cannot see it.
The water heater rumbles or the tankless unit throws error codes
Sediment on a tank bottom and scale on a tankless heat exchanger are the same mineral. A softener stops the supply of it.
Your softener runs but the water still feels hard
A salt bridge in the brine tank, exhausted resin, a bypass left open or a valve stuck mid-cycle all produce the same result. A service visit finds which one.
You moved into a home that already has a softener
Nobody told you the settings, the salt is a mystery and the unit may be in bypass. A check-up gets it working for your household.
When to make the call
A softener makes sense whenever the scale is costing you equipment: a new water heater or tankless unit is the natural moment, because the softener protects the investment from day one. If you already have a unit, book a service when the water changes, when the salt stops going down, or when the softener is past its first decade and has never been looked at. There is no wrong month.
The facts that decide this job
The USGS classifies water as hard at 121 to 180 mg/L of calcium carbonate and very hard above 180 mg/L; soft water is 0 to 60 mg/L.
When hard water is heated, the mineral deposits it leaves reduce the life of equipment, raise the cost of heating the water, lower the efficiency of electric water heaters and clog pipes.

Broward and Miami-Dade draw from the Biscayne aquifer — limestone water, like Jacksonville's — and the scale shows up on shower glass, aerators and inside water heaters here too. Softeners here are most often a tankless owner's decision in Weston, Doral, Pembroke Pines and Cooper City, where the heat exchanger shows the mineral first, and a condo question in Aventura and Miami Beach, where a compact unit has to fit the water heater closet and the association's rules. We tell you honestly whether your water justifies one before we quote it.
Jacksonville & the First Coast
Jacksonville and the First Coast draw drinking water from the Floridan aquifer through JEA, Clay County Utility Authority, the St. Johns County Utility Department and Nassau's systems. It is limestone water: safe to drink, and hard enough that scale shows up on fixtures and inside water heaters across Duval, Clay, St. Johns and Nassau. Softeners are common here and in the new subdivisions of Nocatee, Wildlight and Yulee they often go in a few years after the builder's heater starts rumbling. Well properties in Middleburg, Yulee and along Lofton Creek add iron and sulfur to the mix; a softener alone does not fix those, and we say so before quoting anything.

Do you service existing water softeners?
Yes. We service softeners we did not install: clearing salt bridges, replacing exhausted resin or a failed control valve, fixing a leaking bypass and resetting the regeneration cycle for your household. If the unit is too far gone we tell you, and quote the replacement in writing instead.
Is Jacksonville water hard enough to need a softener?
Jacksonville's water comes from the Floridan aquifer, which is limestone, and it is hard by the USGS scale — hard water is 121 to 180 mg/L of calcium carbonate and very hard is above 180 mg/L. Whether that justifies a softener is a comfort-and-equipment decision: it protects the water heater, tankless unit and fixtures from scale. The water is safe to drink either way.
What size water softener do I need?
Size follows two numbers: your water's hardness in grains per gallon and how much water the household uses in a day. We test the hardness rather than guess it, then pick a unit that regenerates on a sensible schedule for your family instead of the largest one available.
Does a water softener help a water heater last longer?
Yes. The USGS notes that when hard water is heated the mineral deposits reduce the life of equipment, raise the cost of heating water and lower the efficiency of electric water heaters. A softener removes the minerals before they reach the tank or the tankless heat exchanger, so the sediment and scale stop forming.
Can a softener be installed outside in Florida?
Yes, and many of ours are. The unit goes on the main line in a spot protected from direct sun and lawn equipment, with a drain for the regeneration cycle. The photo on this page is one of them, installed beside the air-conditioning unit with new copper connections and a bypass.
